BMW 520i G60

The G60 generation BMW 5 Series is a bolder styling design than the previous “5″ generation G30. However, its silhouette and shapes are more conservative than the latest BMW 7 Series, from which, in turn, it has largely “borrowed” the interior. The biggest competitors for the now legendary limousine from Munich are models such as the Audi A6, Mercedes E-Class and Lexus ES. BMW has always played in the top league when it comes to handling characteristics. The G60 upholds this tradition, but you can feel that the manufacturer has set its sights on developing the car in other respects.

First of all, the G60 generation has grown – it’s now more than five meters long! It is practically the same length as the “seven” generation F01 of 2008. However, this doesn’t hinder the car’s maneuverability around the city, and a lot of credit goes to the strong power steering. Inside, there are far fewer buttons to deal with, and it will feel more familiar in the G60 when shifting from the flagship seven than from the previous generation five. What has remained unchanged is the interior finish and the fit of the components, which is still top-notch. Ride comfort has also improved thanks to the longer wheelbase.

However, the 5 Series hasn’t lost its sporty “claw”, especially when the M Sport Package with sport suspension (present in our unit) is equipped. The claw is also added by the presence of the M Sport visual package, which works well with the Carbon M black paint. Elegance, meanwhile, is added by the perforated/quilted Veganza Espresso brown leather. The driver will be pleased with the M Sport steering wheel, which lies well in the hands. Powering the 520i version is a two-liter 4-cylinder engine with 48-volt mild hybrid technology with 208 hp, which provides more than adequate performance. The G60 generation features more technological innovations compared to its predecessor. A highly effective lane-keeping assistant, automatic lane change when the turn signal is pressed, or providing passengers with entertainment in the form of games or access to Youtube apps are just some of the conveniences. An interesting feature is the function of automatically opening a window in given, saved locations, for example, in an underground parking lot when taking a ticket to enter.

Our copy was additionally equipped with a panoramic glass roof, tinted windows, Driver Assistance Systems Plus, a Harman Kardon HiFi sound system and a Travel package including a power-operated tailgate, comfort access and a travel & comfort system containing useful accessories. The Munich-based manufacturer has opted for a bolder evolution rather than a thorough revolution of the model. The 5 Series has retained its sleek, sporty lines and still provides an excellent driving experience, especially with the optional suspension and M package.

Despite the significant increase in the size of the car, which has positively affected travel comfort and space, the 5 has retained a pleasing “lightness” – both visually and when driving.
It also does not artificially resemble the flagship “seven,” but will likely set the styling trend for the next generation of the 3-Series. The 5-Series has been with us for more than 50 years and has continually provided the same desirable features. It will fulfill its role as a business car, but also as a family car, and when the road becomes more twisty it will give the a lot of driving pleasure.
