The Cayman GT4 is the opposite of current automotive trends – turbocharging, more and more power, better times to “100” or ubiquitous electronic aids. The Cayman is completely purist, which is precisely why it has such a wide range of automotive fans.
One of the Cayman’s most important advantages is its engine. A naturally aspirated 4-liter boxer with the ability to “rev” to the order of 8,000 rpm and an extremely pleasant sound experience! Power build-up is very smooth and predictable which has a positive effect on confident acceleration in corners. Compared to its predecessor, the 718 generation is also more everyday friendly, but it has also gained a lot in terms of dynamics – as evidenced by its sensational time on Nurburging (it is 12 seconds faster than the 981 generation). This is also made possible by a 50% increase in downforce, thanks to effective aerodynamic improvements. Much of the credit for this goes to the sporty diffuser borrowed from the 718 Spyder, as well as the splitter extended at the front of the car.
The feeling of driving an almost track car is also influenced by the austerity of the cabin. The dashboard is covered with alcantara, and the door handles have been replaced by fabric strips. However, Porsche has maintained its typically excellent finish quality in the 718’s cabin, and travel will be made more pleasant by a smoothly functioning multimedia system. The 718 is also distinguished by its compact size and great position behind the wheel, so you will momentarily feel full coherence when driving.
How exceptional a car the Cayman GT4 is is confirmed by the fact that the previous generation held and even gained value (and this does not promise to change with the current situation). Driving this vehicle is precise and “mechanical.” These features are increasingly rare in modern cars. Porsche has undoubtedly remained true to the original intent of the sports car, with no special competition.
