The G60-generation BMW 5 Series is a bolder styling design than the previous “5″ generation G30. We have a combination of design innovation and tradition – its silhouette and shapes, however, are more conservative than the latest BMW 7 Series, from which, in turn, it has largely “borrowed” the interior. The biggest competitors for the now-legendary limousine from Munich are models such as the Audi A6, Mercedes E-Class and Lexus ES.

BMW has always played in the top league when it comes to handling characteristics. The G60 upholds this tradition, but it feels that the manufacturer has set its sights on developing the car in other respects. First of all, the G60 generation has grown – it is now more than five meters long! It is practically the same length as the “seven” generation F01 of 2008. However, this does not hinder the car’s maneuverability around the city, and much credit for this goes to the powerful power steering.

Inside, there are significantly fewer buttons, and switching from the flagship 7 Series to the G60 will feel more familiar than switching from the previous-generation 5 Series. What remains unchanged is the interior finish and fit and finish, which are still top-notch. Thanks to the longer wheelbase, ride comfort has also improved. However, the 5 Series hasn’t lost its sporty “edge,” especially when equipped with the M Sport Package featuring sport suspension (which our test car has). The M Sport visual package also adds to this edge, complementing the black Carbon M paint well. Meanwhile, the brown Veganza Espresso perforated/quilted leather adds a touch of elegance. Drivers will appreciate the M sport steering wheel, which fits perfectly in the hands. The BMW 520i is powered by a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder gasoline engine producing 190 KM, supported by a 48-volt mild-hybrid system. The total system output is 208 KM, ensuring agile performance while maintaining the sedan’s comfortable character.

The G60 generation features more technological innovations compared to its predecessor. A highly effective lane-keeping assistant, automatic lane change when the turn signal is pressed, or providing passengers with entertainment in the form of games or access to Youtube apps are just some of the conveniences. An interesting feature is the function of automatically opening a window in given, saved locations, for example, in an underground parking lot when taking a ticket to enter. Our copy was additionally equipped with a panoramic glass roof, tinted windows, Driver Assistance Systems Plus, a Harman Kardon HiFi sound system and a Travel package including a power-operated tailgate, comfort access and a travel & comfort system that includes useful accessories.

The Munich-based manufacturer has opted for a bolder evolution rather than a thorough model revolution. The 5 Series has retained its sleek, sporty lines and still provides an excellent driving experience, especially with the optional suspension and the M package. Despite the significant increase in the size of the car, which has had a positive effect on travel comfort and space, the 5 has retained a pleasant “lightness” – both visually and when driving. It also does not artificially resemble the flagship “seven,” but will likely set the styling trend for the next generation of the 3-Series. The 5-Series has been with us for more than 50 years and has continually provided the same desirable features. It will fulfill its role as a business car, but also as a family car, and when the road becomes more twisty it will give the driver a lot of driving pleasure.
