The Mercedes-Benz S400D (W223 generation) performs exceptionally well in a variety of situations. Without a doubt, however, it’s in its element on longer trips. Covering mile after mile in this car is the epitome of comfort and pure pleasure. The suspension smooths out every bump, so even after a really long trip, you’ll step out of the car feeling well-rested. The S-Class also pleasantly surprises when driving in the city thanks to its four-wheel steering system—it’s more agile than you’d expect, given the vehicle’s size. As a result, using the car as a “daily driver,” even in urban conditions, is hassle-free. What’s more, the onboard modern 360-degree cameras help when maneuvering in tight spaces. On the open road, the dynamic engine delivers ample power for an unforgettable driving experience, all while maintaining complete driving comfort.

The value of the optional extras in our rental copy exceeds that of many new cars from the showroom. Starting with visual issues, the distinguishing feature of our model is the presence of 21-inch black AMG wheels, giving the S-Class a sportier and more aggressive look (of course, coordinating with the AMG exterior package). The AMG styling package has also taken full effect inside, which you’ll mainly recognize from the sporty, flattened steering wheel that lies perfectly in the hands.

The most expensive option of all is the heavily upgraded Premium Plus equipment package, which already includes the aforementioned 360-degree camera system (and a multitude of parking assistance systems), advanced safety systems, the Energizing package (that includes a heated steering wheel, heated armrests front and rear, air-conditioned front seats, and dynamic multicontour driver and passenger seats). With this last item, the S-Class will take care of our form while traveling, providing a multitude of interesting features. Five programs are available: “Freshness”, “Vitality”, “Warmth”, “Joy” or “Coziness”. After selecting a specific option, the car will adjust the mood in the cabin to our preferences with the help of the appropriate configuration of seat massage, ambient lighting, air conditioning, sound system and other parameters. The car’s interior will be illuminated by a panoramic two-piece glass roof, and a Burmester 3D surround sound system will turn the car into a small concert hall. Additional luxury awaits (as expected) second-row passengers. The “Rear” package will turn a trip on the rear bench seat into pure relaxation. A separate panel for air conditioning control, seat ventilation, a tablet that allows you to operate most of the car’s functions, electrically adjustable seats with massage function or headrests with soft cushions are just some of the amenities.

Of course, it’s not just the rear row passengers who can count on a multitude of extras to make the trip more enjoyable. In our example, we also focused on driver comfort and equipped the car with a “chauffeur” package including an electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory settings, a fingerprint reader, comfort head restraints (identical to those in the rear row) and auto-dimming mirrors. In addition, the presence of adaptive cruise control, reinforced brakes (part of the AMG package) head-up display with augmented reality or digital light headlights that turn night into day, will provide the driver with a sense of security and even more driving pleasure, and built-in navigation will guide you straight to your destination.
