What influenced such a feeling, which this car undoubtedly provides? Part of the increase in horsepower and torque(+20 hp and 20 Nm due to, among other things, a larger turbocharger), but the biggest difference is created by the new rear differential from the R-Performance package with which our copy is equipped. The 320-horsepower, two-liter gasoline engine makes this car a true hot-hatch that performs well both on the track and in everyday city driving.

The previous-generation Golf drove exceptionally well and predictably, but with a tendency to understeer. In the latest, eighth generation, the car has a decidedly more “oversteer” character, making it much more “agile” and more fun to take corners quickly. Despite the relatively small power increase over its predecessor, the Golf R, according to independent measurements, accelerates in approx. 4.2s to 100km/h which puts it very high in the hierarchy of hot hatch, as well as strictly sports cars. Much of the credit for this also goes to the very smoothly operating 7-speed DSG transmission, which we can also operate with large paddles that pleasantly stand out among the competition. An interesting feature are the modes included in the R-Performance package: “Drift” and “Special,” the latter designed specifically for driving on the Nurburgring circuit. In this mode, all car settings adapt to the specifics of this legendary track.

The previously mentioned R-Performance package also adds 19-inch aluminum rims and a rear spoiler. The interior is done to a high standard, pleasing to the eye.
