James Dean’s cursed Porsche.

Do you sometimes believe in supernatural forces? Have you sometimes heard stories that cannot be explained because their absurdity is incomprehensible? If so, you’ve come to the right place, because we want to introduce you to a certain automotive legend that cannot be rationally explained.
Any car enthusiast will agree that we – car lovers – see in their machines something more than a tangle of interconnected mechanisms. Cars have their own character and soul. They have their moods and whims, which must be reckoned with because if they don’t….uu may not be so colorful. There’s a reason why we remember some models for years and try to recreate replicas of them with mad precision, while hearing about others has faded. Such an example would be the Porsche 911 or the Ford Mustang GT. These are cars that give a person more than just the ability to get from point to point, but they also have their dark, vengeful side, and that’s what we’d like to talk about today.

Do you know the story of James Dean? Aside from the fact that the guy was a legend of American cinema and a guy that every other American woman wanted to sleep with, James loved automobiles in his own crazy, wacky and giddy way. Apparently, his character was cruel. He was explosive, mean and insolent but also no surprise, everyone vied for his favor and puffed him up, so the young star felt like a king.

The little bastard is the name of the Porsche 550 Spyder in which James Dean died. After buying the car and showing it to his close theatrical colleague, he heard the words: “James, if you get into this car, they’ll find you dead in it in a week.” The star was killed exactly seven days later in a head-on collision with a Ford Custom, but that’s just the beginning of the story. After the accident, the Porsche was being transported in a truck and while driving it slid and fell onto the roadway. The engine from the Porsche was installed in another race car, which crashed during the race killing the driver. A car with a transmission transferred from a 550 Spyder bucked injuring the driver. Two tires transferred to a third car exploded on a straight road under unexplained circumstances. On the day of the safe driving day exhibition, a car body slid off the platform breaking a young boy’s hip. A truck later transporting the body to another exhibition had an accident in which the driver was killed. Another truck carrying it came loose with its handbrake and the car drove into a store building. The final body disintegrated into 11 pieces during one of the exhibitions.

Is anyone able to explain such a coincidence? I don’t know… but this strange and mysterious story shows that cars have their dark sides. We don’t know what James Dean was really doing in his Porsche and why this copy was so unlucky, but the conclusion of this story is one. It’s worth respecting your own cars … and of course those from rental companies too ?
