The history of the Mercedes G-Class can be traced back to 1969, when the very idea of creating it appeared. The idea behind the development of the G Class was to combine off-road capabilities with a suitable level of comfort for driving on paved roads.The final car was shown to the world in 1979, which means that the G Class is more than 40 years old! Mercedes still retains its classic body, but its premise has changed somewhat. The G Class started out as an off-road car with the ability to drive relatively comfortably on asphalt. Nowadays, it’s a high-end SUV (although it hasn’t lost its original capabilities, the ability to drive off-road is far less often the deciding factor in a purchase) that has become luxurious, very powerful and not exactly practical. However, it is loved by everyone and is certainly one of a kind.

Our copy is the most powerful version marked G63 equipped with a 4-liter V8 Biturbo engine, accelerating this 2.6-ton car in 4.5s to 100km/h! The latest generation of the G-Class, designated W483, is distinguished not only by its sensational performance and improved handling. It’s also a new level of luxury and interior finish. This is especially true in our copy equipped with options such as the “G manufaktur Plus Interior Package” and the “Premium Plus Package.” The first package includes, among other things, a Burmester 3D sound system, an exclusive designo headliner or a leather-trimmed dashboard.

The second package is even more extensive. It features another package, namely “driver’s assistant,” which includes blind spot assist and adaptive “distronic” cruise control. In addition, the package adds a power roof window, ambiente lighting with up to 64 colors, air ionization, a 360-degree camera and a comfort seating plus package. All of this means that the cockpit of the new G-Class resembles nothing like the original version with its austere characteristics, but more like the interior of a modern limousine.

Our copy in black paint with the optional night package definitely looks very “militant”. Its performance is also combative, and its acceleration is addictive, to say the least. At the same time, the Mercedes G63 is definitely not the most fuel-efficient car in our fleet, but we are lucky to find an enlarged 100L fuel tank on board. “Gelenda” in its most powerful version is undisputedly an extremely interesting car, providing a lot of excitement and driving pleasure. It is also a rare sight on our roads, despite the fact that we are one of the larger markets in Europe in terms of G-class sales. It’s a car that already has a cult following, and a drive in it should certainly be made by every car lover, as the experience accompanying it is hard to compare to any other car!
